24d. Forlì – Castrocaro

It is a link between the spa town and Forlì, thus connected to the Via Romea Germanica. It is all on the plain and mostly along the so-called ‘Urban Park’ that follows the Montone river.

From the Terme di Castrocaro you take the gravel road of the Urban Park. The entire route runs along the Montone River; it takes the entire right bank. It passes inside the Citadel of Terra del Sole. It crosses the SS 67 state road and approaches the Montone river again. You come to an area where there is a water regulation plant and then an area full of agricultural greenhouses. After a short distance, we find the Church of Villa Rovere. Then a quarry area; following this, we cross the river and come to Viale Anzani.

If you want to continue along the Via Romea towards San Martino in Strada, Scardavilla and Meldola without passing through the centre of Forlì, from Viale D. Anzani you cross the park and reach Viale dell’Appennino: here is the route of the Via Romea Germanica.

If instead you want to visit the city, continue to Via Salinatore, the city’s ring road, and take a subway that leads to Piazza Guido da Montefeltro, where the San Domenico Museums are located. From there you will soon reach the Duomo, and Piazza Saffi, the heart of Forlì. From Piazza Saffi, taking Corso della Repubblica (the ancient Via Emilia) and crossing Piazzale della Vittoria, after about 4 kilometres you reach the hamlet of Ronco, where, taking the left bank, you head south and towards Meldola.
