36. Paciano – Città della Pieve

Easy and short stage, which winds through the hills to be covered partly on cart roads and partly on asphalt. After seeing the beautiful Paciano, Città della Pieve is also worth a visit. Do not forget the works of Perugino.

Leaving Paciano from Porta Rastrella, and then Via Madonna della Stella, you go down and then up again for Pietreto and follow this road full of hairpin bends halfway up Mount Petrarvella, in the middle of woods and olive trees, with remarkable villas and farmhouses. You reach San Donato and the Church. We turn left and continue through wooded areas and olive groves; you then reach Popoltaio-Schiacciato which you cross until you reach the SP 309; we go up to Valdilucciole and we arrive in Casaltondo, another small inhabited center with a source for our water supply. Back on the SP 309, take a cart road that enters the woods (cyclists, on the other hand, stay on the SP 309 for 1.8 km). Then you cross the SP 309 again. On a beautiful cart track, you skirt a beautiful stream which you can ford. Pay attention to the gates which must be diligently closed as you cross a large farm with a large cattle herd. Then you go up through the woods on the path. This leads to the first houses of Città della Pieve and then to its beautiful centre.
